Resident Assistant position applications for the 2016-2017 academic year are now available from the Department of Residence Life office located on first floor of Royce Hall. What kinds of students make good RAs? Many kinds! We’re not necessarily looking for people who already have all the skills they’ll need to perform the job since we offer training programs before and during the term of employment. Instead, we seek candidates who are perceptive, flexible, open to working with all types of people, able to learn, and willing to make a difference. Perhaps you’re one of these people!
Each Resident Assistant is compensated in the form of room and board (a single room and meal plan of your choice), plus $700. Perhaps most important, however, are the transferable skills gained in the position. Studies show that employment recruiters often find communication and leadership skills to be much more important than G.P.A. The RA position provides hands-on experience with motivating and leading groups, developing and maintaining a community atmosphere, mediating conflicts, assessing resident needs and helping students to make responsible choices. This is the type of solid experience that stands out to potential employers.
The selection process is now beginning. RA Applications are available from the Residence Life Office in Royce Hall and are due on January 20, 2016 at the Residence Life Office in Royce Hall. A position description is available in the application packet for those who are interested in reviewing it more thoroughly.
We hope that you will consider applying to be a Resident Assistant at UW-Platteville!
